Screw you. You have no viable reason not to. You've never even tried to read it. ^_^
Adrien Cochrane at 5:44pm March 14
First two lines of the description:
"Are you sick of gung ho Twilight fanatics trying to get you to read the books?
Do you wish that they would take "no" for an answer and leave you alone?"
So reread the title...I don't like it...get over it.
You know I heart you, *name withheld*. :)
name withheld at 5:51pm March 14
If you had a better reason, we'd leave you alone. But, I'm sorry, "other people like it" just isn't a good reason. Posers give reasons like that. Your reason is annoying. I'd say the same about any book. Sometimes you should remember that popular things are popular for a reason.
name withheld at 6:06pm March 14
And if by gung-ho fanatics you mean me and other Adam, screw that. We're pissed at such a stupid reason. Read a few chapters. Or not, but don't say it's bad when you couldn't possibly have any idea what it's like. Saying "I don't like reading", fine. Saying "read it, but couldn't get into it", again, fine, but stop being so anti mainstream on purpose. It makes you and everyone else who tries it look ridiculous.
Adrien Cochrane at 6:07pm March 14
No, it's the fact that it gets shoved down my throat that I don't really like it. When something gets that much hype, I'm sorry, but it starts to scream "overrated". When things get that hyped up, it is nearly impossible for it to live to it. I'm sure part of you felt that it was hyped up to be a wee bit better than you even thought it was. Even Dark Knight had this curse. Dark Knight was one of the best movies that has come out in the past few years, but it was hyped up to be SUPER-ULTRA-MEGA EPIC. It was just standard epic.
I don't want to read something because everyone else is reading it. Peer pressure is the dumbest reason to make such a decision. I make my own decisions, and you know me well enough to know that about me. Why do you think I'm practically the only person on campus who listens to Sum 41 or Blink-182. I don't base my decisions on popularity or everyone else's opinion. Honestly, Twilight isn't even my genre. I couldn’t care less about vampires…
Adrien Cochrane at 6:09pm March 14
…I didn’t really get into Blade for this reason. I just don’t like it. It’s not my cup of tea.
The reason why I joined this Facebook group is because a simple “no” should have sufficed you guys to begin with. I shouldn’t have to give a reason as to why I don’t want to read, watch, or listen to something. Yet nearly every time it is brought up, we give Adrien the stink eye because he is anti-Twilight. I give you no kind of sign that I like anything even remotely similar to give you the idea that I would be interested in it. I can understand bugging me to listen to a few bands I don’t like (like Panic at the Disco! or Fall Out Boy) because they are remotely similar to bands I DO listen to. But I like nothing even in that genre of books. Judge me all you want over this ordeal, but realize that when something comes out, you can’t expect EVERY SINGLE person to like it. Impossible, no matter how good it is. I just don’t like it.
Adrien Cochrane at 6:09pm March 14
Will this reason suffice, or do I need to keep going?
Anyone else feel the same way about this stuff? Think I handled this well? Is this the correct forum for this?
Why did you even join that group?
I've known people who refused to read/watch/play something because it was popular, as if being the outsider made them cool, while everyone else was stupid for following the trend. The logic never made sense to me. You voluntarily deny yourself a life experience just to be cool or different? And then you put down the people who are into stuff you're not into? Why?
Anyway, you can read Twilight or not, it's your choice. But if you won't read it, stop debating about it as if you have an informed opinion, because you don't. You're the asshole in this situation, Adrien. Sorry.

I'm not knocking them, actually. They're knocking me. I don't make fun of them for liking it. They make fun of me for NOT liking it. I just don't want to read it because it's not really my cup of tea. I'm not into vampires or any of that sort. However, they keep shoving it down my throat and all I ever told them was, "No. I don't want to read it". My friend took my reasoning (the popularity thing) out of context when they told me "But everyone is reading it" and I replied "Just because everyone is reading it doesn't mean, I have to".
EDIT: I only gave that rant because this friend told me I didn't have a good enough reason to not read it, and I gace him that rant.
So your response to the people who want you to read Twilight is not to disengage and avoid the scene, but rather to confront it head-on and be a shit-disturber toward all the Twilight fans.
Evidently you want the attention of these people, despite claiming that you hate them harassing you; and I suspect you want it so you can make a public spectacle of how much you don't want to read Twilight.
Again, your position is hard to defend here.

Imagine Adrien as Charles Bronson's character in Death Wish. He's been pushed to the edge by roving gangs of punks and drug dealers. If he just lets them do their thing and ignore them more innocent people will be hurt by the hands of those skinheads. But if he takes on the gangs with the WWII Machine Gun that his neighbor owns, he'll save the ghetto.
... But yeah, Ken's right.
And now I want to start a powerviolence band, too bad I can't name it Charles Bronson.

I'm taking the heads on approach when practically all my college friends are pushing it on me when I tried the avoid approach. After eight months, I decided to make my statement clear to them. And all Twilight fans are going to be offended by me giving that rant to one friend of mine. 99% of Twilight fans don't even know I exist. To say I'm a shit-disturber to all Twilight fans is a bit stretching. I'm just saying "If you like it, great...continue reading...just don't try to make me read it anymore".
I tried avoiding the topic as much as I can when I'm around them. However, when one of my friends mentions how nice their Twilight bookmarker is, another friend goes, "Yeah...too bad Adrien over here doesn't want to read it" followed by laughing and pointing. Ken, I'm a very emotional person...when you push me a little, I think before I act, and give a politically correct response to make sure I don't offend them. I honestly don't think my rant up there would have hurt his or anyone else's feelings. Push me a lot, however, I usually do start saying things I regret later. I am about one step below that mark.
Maybe Zortalk is onto something. You should just kill your friends, Adrien. Then you won't have to endure their hurtful mockery anymore.
You come up to them and go, "You like vampires? You fucking like vampires so much? Then let's see how much you like this!" And then you plunge a big pointed wooden stake through their fanatical Twilight worshipping hearts! And while the lifeblood pumps out of their bodies, you crumple up pages from that most hateful of youth literature, scatter them all over the room, strike a match and BURN THE WHOLE FUCKING PLACE TO THE GROUND.
That'll teach them for trying to share something they like with you.

I wouldn't kill them. Despite this crap, they are still my friends. I just don't like how I simply told them "no" eight months ago, and they didn't respect that. So I gave a rant. Sorry if that makes me the devil here.

"i do't want to even be able to have any sort of informed opinion on something, i'm just going to hate it"
Man up for once and go to http://www.amazon.com/reader/0316015849?_encoding=UTF8&ref_=sib_dp_pt#reader and read chapter one.
Then you can say "I thought it was poorly written, and seeing as I know the story ends with teenage angsty drama between a vampire with no fangs who glimmers in the dark and Selfinsert McFuckface, I didn't want to read any more."
Like I did.
Why do all your problems get solved by you passive-aggressively solving them through other people and facebook groups and shit?

I read all four.
I work in a bookstore, and I like to stay semi modern about what is "hot" in my field. I also didn't pay for a single book, I borrowed or rented them from work.
My take on Twilight will come later, after I get done talking to Adrien. Honestly I hate when people just come out and go "I hate it, I hate it, I hate it" without making an attempt to be educated on something or try it. Granted things like butt sex, donkey sex, and rape and murder are thrown out in this conversation. I am speaking for the likes of movies, music, books, things along that vein.
This is the problem you face. Honestly, read some of it...then at least say what Kevin said, or say what I said after Book One, which was the following:
What the fuck?! The main character blacks out and since it's a first person novel I miss the only good fight scene?
Then people won't be able to hammer you for just trying to be "punk".
"Punk" of course is long since dead.
My take on Twilight is standard issue. I have a penis, therefore it really doesn't apply to me. However when you call something "the new Harry Potter" I get entrigued. It wasn't the new Harry Potter, and it wasn't amazingly written. I didn't enjoy reading any of them. I did enjoy discussing the books after I was finished.
At least they have kids reading, despite how poorly they're written. Fucking Mormons....fucking Stephanie Myer.
Did you know that Twilight accounts for at least five items on the Barnes and Noble Top Ten best sellers list?
That's fucking sad.
Don't even get me started on the movie either.

I never read the book, but, for my cousin's sake, I did make an attempt at the movie.
Big Mistake. Whoever started this Twilight thing is rich. Poorly written, most likely. Our youth? Poorly educated. It almost seems necessary. Not to mention, the bitch is filthy rich. What does she care if it's written well or not?
Id fucking nut myself if something I wrote, and knew sucked, went off the charts and got called the next (even though I loathe the series) Harry Potter, or (again, hatred here) Lord of the Rings, or whatthefuck ever it may be that was once a fad.
Props to her. Now she gets to eat fish eggs while we discuss her ignorance/poor writing ability/lack of involvement in the porn industry/whatever you want to discuss.

You didn't give an opinion. You said you didn't like it because it was over hyped. Yet you like Green Day and Blink 182 who sold out fourteen times over.
Cannot.
Understand.
Brain.
Process.
Failing.
Systems shutting down.
Also a book that starts mainly as this story of self loathing for a girl moving from Arizona to Washington state, might not be the best scope of Twilight...just sayin'.
Jason
03-15-2009, 02:42 AM
Corey...you just admitted to seeing a movie and then tried to compare it to the book. Epic fail.
The books are 25298592859485982959 times better then the movie is. You cannot turn a first person novel into a third person movie. Just doesn't work in the context of that series.
Also that fucking vampire stalking them at the prom, that shit doesnt happen till the end of the second/beginning of the third book.
Cory Reznor
03-15-2009, 02:46 AM
I didn't try to compare anything. I said I had never read the book, but attempted to see the movie. I walked out 10 minutes in and chilled in the arcade. There was really no comparison. My statements regarding the book were purely based on previous posts. If comparison appears evident, then I apologize. That was not what I intended. I was needlessly stating that from the ten minutes of the movie I witnessed, Twilight was not something I would ever come to be interested in. No bashing, no comparing, just statements (to prevent anyone else taking anything I said the wrong way).

I didn't like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings, either.
I don't see how it's so shocking to not like either, considering they both deal with wizardry, magic, and gay shit like that.
To stay on topic, I know nothing about twilight. I'm not against vampire movies, per say, but I've never seen one that I thought was awesome, and twilight definitely didn't strike me as something I need to be concerned with.

So the gist of the facebook conversation was...
Adrien: I judge books negatively by their popularity, it's like judging books by their cover but in an idiotic sort of way, because covers at least have a solid description of what's in the book at times. I'm so emo.
Namewithheld: Uhm, dude, that's the most stupid reason I've ever seen about why someone says they don't like the book. Are you gay?
I'm sure I got points wrong, but frankly Adrien you're the problem in that conversation. You joined a group about hating something that you know nothing about. All you know is that it's popular.
That's moronic.
Do you hate sex?
Do you hate water? [this is a set up for a meaner person]
Do you hate America?
Yet you like popular bands like Blink 182 that have sung references to equally emo shit to Twilight like A Nightmare Before Christmas. And they basically have the exact same target audience.
Saying you don't like something because it's popular is so idiotic that it makes it makes Lennie Small look like Albert Einstein.
Now, I will not read Twilight or watch the movies [Same policy as Harry Potter] but that's because I don't like the subject matter. To me watching Twilight would be like watching gay porn. Except I wouldn't get an erection watching twilight... wait...
Uhm... insert a less gay comment there...
Anyway, Adrien you took it upon your self to get lambasted by twilight tweens. What's your next step, to come to North Philly and wear a KKK outfit in protest of Rap music? And no, I'm not calling you a racist, merely ignorant of what you hate. [I have to point out that I'm not actually calling you a racist, I think that's the Pierson Law]
Selfinsert McFuckface ftw. Ten points to Kevin.

Me and my friend worked out a deal that has me reading at least the first half of the book as one of the stipulations. I left the group and retracted my statements. He admitted that he took my prior reasoning out of context because I never said that "Oh, it's popular...ewww..." I said that I'm not making my decision to read something just because everyone else is reading it.
EDIT: And Green Day and Blink-182 are NOT popular is these parts. I'm practically the only one who listens to them down here. If it's not country, rap, southern rock, or metal, they don't listen to it.

Living in Texas, I do see very few Blink 182 fans. But, Green Day is still semi-popular. Of course, hidden behind My Chemical Romance and HIM. (Sad.) I dont know about Mississippi, however. UGH! Twilight. My MOM bought and read the first book, and immediately tried to push it on me. I read the first page aloud to her, and shuddered at the multitude of run-on sentences. I made it to the part where the vampires are revealed as being sparkly... and that's why they're hiding in the Pacific Northwest... COME ON! So the whole book is a joke on Emo teens who love being gloomy, and Washington state? That's sad.
Yeah, at that point I threw the book across the room, and decided I want Stephenie Meyer to die. Horribly.

Hot Topic Twilight merch is insane. My Barnes and Noble is located in a mall with a Hot Topic and due to Hot Topic selling t-shirts people come in to our store asking if we do as well. It's a book store...when has a book store ever done anything like that.
Really, what this is all coming down to is the target audience. Teens that are between the ages of let's say 13 and 23. That ten year age range has thee most expendable income available to them. So if you want something to succeed you target that audience.
Which also kinds of ties into Blink and Green Day.

If you try and read a vampire book not written by Anne Rice, shit, even Charlaine Harris, you may as well stop, pause and start over with those books. The genre has already been ultimately defined by writers who didn't list their reasons for writing a book as "I was listening to Linkin Park and Muse and I decided to write a vampire series" as listed by Stephenie Meyer.

Adrien is definitely right. Blink 182 and Green Day bare little mention or worth in Mississippi. Just because they had a song about Katrina doesn't make them a hero or a highly loved band or anything in the South. I, on the other hand, like Green Day. Not so much a Blink 182 fan, but I like some songs.
Mississippi is dominated by rap, Southern rock, country, and actually pop music like Britney Spears and Avril Lavigne. At least in my region.

While, nobody can deny that it would be a lie to say "100 people listen to Green Day and Blink 182 in the South", it is definitely two less dominant bands here. When I go down the road and travel, I'm more likely to here things like "Lil' Wayne, Flo Rida, Rick Ross, David Banner" and for rock "3 Doors Down, Egypt Central, Saving Abel and Nickelback". Needless to say, if there is a dominant Blink 182/Green Day contingent in Mississippi, they are either hiding it so nobody laughs at them, getting ready to move because of the hatred of the dominant music, or leave it at the house. I can name a couple of friends off hand who listen to them but either don't follow them currently or they are just simply "old news".

Now that you reminded me. Biloxi, MS can't even sell out a WWE event. I, actually can't remember Blink 182 or Green Day ever coming to Mississippi for a live show. I think that's most of the problem with big named bands like that as regard to Mississippi strongholds. I have seen Disturbed, Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Mudvayne and Slipknot play during "The Day Offest" I believe in 2002 or 3. They just don't come back frequent enough to catch the audiences. It's more like a political race. If it was, Green Day and Blink 182 don't have any electorial votes. They lose to Lynyrd Skynyrd and 3 Doors Down.

But only because Green Day did it first and better.
Neither one of you gets what the other is saying.
Cannon, Meth just means that regardless of what the people you hang out with listen to, there are guaranteed to be SOME people SOMEWHERE in your state who listen to x kind of music.
Meth, Cannon doesn't know anyone who listens to said bands, and he's generalizing.
You're both gay/lame for having this argument. Gayme.

I'm not gay for pointing out that this idiot is a fucking idiot.
I mean, do I really have to go and copy and paste all the times Green Day and Blink have played a concert in Mississippi?
Because a quick Google check will settle that stupid argument too.

You're arguing about the popularity of Blink 182 in Mississippi.
Gayest argument ever.

If you're just going to ramble at the fucking mouth about shit you don't know and I don't know, then be my guest. But other than that...
You know, I'm just trying to post in this one stupid forum, so I can keep talking to the people that still don't think I am an idiot. I ain't trying to be an idiot with you, no matter how much you seem to want to make it out like I am.
I'm not arguing with you.
I don't care to argue with you.
I'm not debating with you.

Fuck you.
Fuck off.

I'm going to assume, and probably correctly, that they are a crap load in Hattisburg and Jackson. But not in Lincoln County. Not at Co-Lin. If I were to make my entire college take a poll on whether or not they like Green Day or Blink-182, I'd get 98% No, 2% yes...and that's counting my vote.

A, that's stupid.
B, so there ARE probably people in your state who like those bands, you just don't know them.
This argument is so super lame.

Ok, fine, Kevin. I'll drop the arguement. So what's a good book you recommend for me to read or album for me to listen to, Dave?

Read On The Road by Kerouac.
You sound like a man in need of Kerouac.
Seconded
Also try some o' John Muir's writing and some Carl Sagan. Cosmos is the shit.

You know, I don't RECALL ever hearing about Green Day or Blink 182 ever playing a concert in space either, so all the aliens, everywhere, must really fucking hate them.
Also, Cormac MacCarthy never wrote a book specifically for me to read, so he's a total dickhead now too.
And fuck Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny while we're at it.

Green Day playing a concert in space would be a great idea for a music video, Meth! You are a genious.

I go to work for a day and I come back and this thread has taken a turn for the best (or is it worse?)
Meth, you continue to prove that you are a hero.
Cannon, you continue to prove that you are not.
Adrien, you continue to prove that you are Adrien.
Cannon, the only reason you remembered that quote to spit back at Meth is because it's in my sig, or you looked it up. If you admit to looking it up you're a loser for picking a fight with a hero. If you admit to looking in my sig, you're a plagiarist. Either way...you're boned.
Meth, I think we should start a pop/punk band in Mississippi because we could really clean up.
Adrien, there has to be kids at your school that you don't know. I want every kid at your college to come on here and tell me they don't like Green Day and Blink 182.
Cannon, same goes to you. March in your entire state, show me what they like.
Hey guess what...Blink 182 never played a concert in my house so we all hate them. Same goes with every single fucking band in the history of music, save for my brother's band.
Did I ramble?

I think it's funny that there are people who come into this thread and are like "OMG I CANTS BELIEVE THEY ARE BE TALKING ABOUT DIS STUFF STILLS!!!!!!!"
Because if you don't want to talk about, don't want to watch/read/view us talking about, think it's stupid then stop posting here.
It's a choice to post here. You make an effort to read and respond proving that what we have to say in this thread (whether you agree or not) envokes some sort of reaction within you. Which is pretty sad if you claim it's stupid and then take time to post it's stupid, which makes you all that much stupider for posting it in the first place.
Did I lose you? Good your pea brained mind couldn't handle it.
As for being gay, yes I love the flamming dick of Edward Cullen in my mouth. So does Adrien, we don't fault him for that.
P.S. For the slow kids, neither of us are actually homos. Actually I can only speak for myself here.
So in short: Don't like it don't post.
Notice how Cannon and Cochrane shut up since Meth got involved.

Cannon, sarcastic "DO IT" and "You wont!" and "You're so cool!" and other generic second grade insults do not count as participating in the conversation.
That being said the Twilight Director's Notebook came out today.

I have a few friends who said they liked the movie, Twilight. Can't say that I have seen it or read the book either. According to a lot of the posts on here, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like it. I really wanna read the "Spiderwick Chronicles" series though.
Jason

How old are you seven?
Like I told Corey before you...Hitchhiker's Guide.
Meth has talked about McCarthy, he's written stuff you MIGHT have heard of. No Country For Old Men is one such title.
How bout Paige...what did he recommend...On the Road. You could get a good read out of that.
The Spiderwick Chronicles...nah, just nah.
