Also Interesting: Dana White flip-flops like the footwear of the same name. (http://www.sherdog.com/news/articles/white-on-fedor-we-tried-everything-18850)

Thoughts?

Fedor is a joke. He obviously doesn't care - people blame Finelstein or whatever his manager is called, but at the end of the day, Fedor is the only person who makes the decision.

Unless Fedor really does let Vadim make the decisions *shrug*? I'm over the not coming to UFC disappointment anyway, so big whoop. He'll tool three or four guys Coker can muster up and then who knows? Probably back to Japan or he retires or whatever.

I figure his first two fights will be Brett Rogers and/or Alistair Overeem immediately for the STRIKEFORCE Heavyweight Title. Then depending on the outcome of those two fights, they try as best as they can to bring in others to fight him until he leaves.

As for STRIKEFORCE. The only thing that will make Fedor a draw is continued, dominant success because he has no charisma and his complete lack of English will make him damn near unmarketable. Plus the fact that unless it gets on CBS, there will be next to no media attention for this event and a bunch of "no names" to the average fan isn't going to draw when Fedor is barely a draw to begin with.

Business-wise. My only hope is that this doesn't ultimately cripple STRIKEFORCE. It may not be PRIDE or even Affliction, but it's the best alternative for fighters in North America. Dana White may not want it, but at least one strong competitor is a good thing for the business end of the sport.

It won't damage Strikeforce unless something unforseen happens. Of all the promotions, Strikeforce is the one with a sound management team, even Dana White likes Strikeforce so that should tell you something!

I expect that they have taken a risk, albeit a calculated one. They won't have offered money they can't afford.

Fedor will get them viewers, if only because of all the recent mainstream media outlet coverage him _not_ signing with the UFC has received.

There just don't seem to be any fights for him. I think we can safely agree that he will never be in the UFC, so after he's gone through Overeem, Werdum and then Rogers [if Rogers wins a couple more] he'll be back to Japan.

And Dana White continues to be a tool. He doesn't get his way (and to his credit, it sounds like he bent over backwards to make the deal) and then goes back to questioning Fedor's cred. DANA, FEDOR IS BETTER THAN BROCK, RANDY, AND FUCKING KIMBO. YOU KNOW IT, WE KNOW IT. HAVE A COKE, AND A SMILE, AND SHUT THE FUCK UP!

That is all.

Ramsey, who wishes the UFC had some real competition...

HAVE A COKE, AND A SMILE, AND SHUT THE FUCK UP!

Ladies and gentlemen, the comedy stylings of Jason Ramsey!

Corey, who knows where Ramsey got it because like Ramsey, he's old.

You know who doesn't know that? The frat boy in his Affliction t-shirt who buys every UFC PPV so he and his buddies can crack some brews and watch two guys beat each other up, strategy be damned!

That's also Dana's target audience, and not only do they not know what Fedor's capable of, as long as Dana tells them that he's not the best "because he doesn't fight the best," they'll believe it.

ps. he's also kinda right, because lord knows fat tim sylvia and non-long hair arlovski aren't exactly the best fighters in the world; fedor hasn't fought top flight competition in years.

I'm torn, on one hand I agree that White is acting like a tool spouting off that Fedor isn't one of if not the top fighter in the world. To refute that is retarded. And, obviously, Fedor can do whatever the fuck he feels like, he obviously feels he has nothing to prove to the UFC audience. But seriously? Fedor has to be either dumb as a post or scared as fuck of getting his ass kicked because even a novice fan of the sport knows all he needs (if he's that fucking good) is two fights in UFC to prove his dominance of the sport.

A fight with Randy Couture (so Couture will quit whining about it) that's a fucking money main event right there. Then a fight with Lesnar, obviously. Two wins over those two guys and Fedor could legitimately call himself the best MMA fighter in the world and nobody could dispute it. And hell, even if Randy beat Fedor that would set up an epic rematch between he and Brock, so it'd be win win for White and UFC.

But in reality, Fedor seems to care more about his pure sambo competitions than anything associated with MMA.

The prevailing thought is/was that Fedor might not want to fight the top MMA Heavyweights after signing w/ Strikeforce. I'm assuming the strategy that giving up 40% of something that doesn't yet exist isn't a tough proposition to uphold on the Strikeforce end.

I wonder if they made Fedor privvy to this info, upon signing the deal.

Strikeforce/DREAM alliance

But there's only one or two guys that fight for DREAM currently that I'd see as reasonable opponents for Fedor, and as if his lack of star power wasn't bad enough, these potential opponents are even less of stars. They don't have a heavyweight division, they have a match here or there, and they have the Super Hulk Tournament.

Yes, I'd probably pay like $5 to watch Minowaman or Jose Canseco against Fedor, but that's not the point.

The DREAM deal will make for some good LW-MW fights, but I agree that it doesn't do much for Fedor. I suppose it allows Fed vs Barnett to happen NYE in japan though.
